Less oxygen
Less corrosion
A Minox Tower removes dissolved oxygen from water-based drilling fluid, cutting corrosion in drill pipe, casing and downhole equipment. Tested at an onshore site in Norway.

Minox Tower lifted into place at the onshore test site, Norway.
[01]
Challenge
Drilling contractors worldwide see heavy corrosion in drill pipe, casing and internal equipment exposed to water-based drilling fluid. Dissolved oxygen is a primary driver.
[02]
Solution
The Minox Tower strips oxygen from the fluid in a specially designed column. The unit handles up to 50 m³/h and can be scaled up for onshore or offshore use.
[03]
Result
Oxygen fell from more than 8,000 ppb to below 60 ppb. Higher inlet oxygen has little effect on outlet performance; the system works where it is hardest, at ppb levels.
water-based drilling fluid
lower corrosion rate at 200 ppb O₂
lower corrosion-related cost
Corrosion figures: reducing dissolved O₂ from 8–10 ppm to 200 ppb cuts the corrosion rate by a factor of about 10. Velocity and temperature also affect corrosion.
