While Norwegian companies struggle with sky-high electricity bills and uncertainty about when they will be connected to the grid, the solution is not to wait for society at large to provide a bigger power outlet. Our seminar at Arendalsuka 2025 reveals how established forces are preventing Norwegian businesses from becoming energy independent – and what needs to be done to change that.

The problem: today's energy system favors centralized power sources (hydropower) instead of generating and storing electricity where it is actually used.

The result is that Norwegian companies pay artificially high prices for electricity, while competitiveness is weakened and the green transition is slow.

The solution is the alternative that no one is protesting against: Solar panels on the roofs of industrial and commercial buildings, combined with batteries and grid connection.

In the years to come, we face a choice...

Shall we spend staggering sums on more grid capacity that destroys nature to transport electricity that we lack anyway – or reduce costs through local production and storage of electricity.
